Alex M. Shirley
Born and raised in the Oklahoma City metro, Alex Shirley studied Communications at Oklahoma Baptist University where he graduated with honors in 2014. He then attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 2017. Alex joined Van Meter Law Firm as a law clerk in 2016, and now continues as a new associate attorney, bringing his enthusiasm, diligence, and fresh outlook.
Alex and his wife, Courtney, married soon after completing undergraduate degrees. They live in Oklahoma City with their two dogs, Russell and Teddy.
When Alex is not practicing law, he enjoys watching Thunder games, discussing Star Wars theories, and planning his and Courtney’s next vacation.
Born in Hawaii, but raised in Texas, Sharon arrived in Oklahoma City in 1977 having worked in various administrative and secretarial positions with Phillips Petroleum Company and a private practice attorney. Prior to joining Van Meter Law Firm as a Legal Assistant in 2006, she spent many years raising her family on a 13-acre “mini-farm” in Oklahoma County.
Sharon and her husband, Mark, have been blessed with three children. She and her family are active members of Cornerstone Church in Midwest City where they are involved in children and youth ministries. In her spare time, she enjoys coaching volleyball, spending time with her family on Oklahoma lakes and making people laugh.
A legal assistant with the firm since November 2008, Linn Heagen was born and raised in central Oklahoma. She is a 1980 graduate of Choctaw High School. Linn worked in OG&E’s Purchasing Department for 4 years before entering the legal field, where she worked as a legal secretary for two law firms. Her husband’s employment took them out of state for a year, at which time she worked in a dental office prior to the birth of the first of their two sons. Linn then spent the next 20 years as a homemaker and full-time mother.
Linn enjoys gardening and walking/running. She and her husband Mike also enjoy riding their motorcycle together, both locally and on cross-country trips. They have recently ventured into the world of farming, raising chickens and enjoying their fresh eggs.
After graduating Louisiana Tech University in 1974, Ann worked for law firms in Alabama and Texas before putting her career on hold to become a full-time homemaker to her husband, Aaron, and their three children. In 2010, she became a welcome addition to Van Meter Law Firm, bringing her quiet dignity and gentle spirit.
Ann and Aaron attend Christ’s Legacy in Yukon. They have served as marriage mentors and participate in outreach projects. Outside of work, you will find her reading, cooking, gardening or participating in skeet and sporting clays recreational shooting.
After graduating from Rose State College with an Associate in Applied Science, Paralegal Studies degree, Shelly was employed with the City of Oklahoma City for 12 years. She worked for the City Attorney’s Office for 5 of those years. After much prayer and consideration, she decided to leave the City Attorney’s Office to raise her two daughters full-time. After the girls started school, she worked in their elementary school in the Special Education Program. In 2014, Shelly found her way back to the field of work she is passionate about and was the new addition to the Van Meter Law Firm, binging her joy, sense of humor, and organizational skills.
Shelly and her daughters are members at SW Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. She has attended and served there since 1996. She enjoys traveling, reading, walking and spending time with her family.

Ellen Watts is active in her church, women’s ministry, choir, community group leader and coach, civic and political committees, and other organizations, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She enjoys spending time with her husband and family, taking road trips, needlepoint, bicycling and writing. Ellen Watts also enjoys teaching as an adjunct professor for Oklahoma State University where she teaches policy, law and advocacy classes
